A Chubb employee has his company to thank for helping him to finish an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) course to become a Certified Chartered Accountant.

Hounslow-based Muhammad Irfan, a Regional Financial Accountant for Chubb Fire, studied towards the qualification part-time over three-and-a-half years supported by UTC’s Employee Scholarship Programme (ESP).
Muhammad had already started to study for the course prior to joining Chubb Fire in 2007, as he explains: “The ACCA qualification is the main professional qualification for chartered accountants across the globe, so completing the course was an essential step in furthering my career.

“I studied for the qualification part time over three-and-a-half years, attending classes every weekend. It was certainly not easy and required a great deal of dedication, so it is very rewarding to have graduated. I also completed a Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) practical requirement to become a qualified member, and now after passing the ACCA exams I will become an ACCA member. So soon I will have the initials ACCA, CAT behind my name.

“Though I’d already commenced the course before joining Chubb, I joined the ESP for the last two-and-a-half years of the course. Joining the ESP was very beneficial, not only as it supported me financially, but also as it allowed for study time too.
“I have already found the qualification beneficial to my career and hope that the knowledge will stand me in good stead in years to come,” he concludes.

Under the programme, which is open to all employees, Chubb Fire’s parent company, UTC, pays for all tuition, books and academic fees. Employees can choose any field of study, not necessarily job related, provided that a nationally recognised institution is offering the degree course.
